Our Purpose
The Civic Engagement Pillar of The Rise Moor Healing Center is dedicated to educating, empowering, and preparing individuals to become informed, responsible, and active participants in their communities.
We believe that strong communities are built by individuals who understand their rights, recognize their responsibilities, and possess the knowledge and leadership skills necessary to create meaningful change.
Guided by our mission “To uplift fallen humanity and teach those things necessary to make us better citizens,” we promote civic education, community leadership development, public participation, and collective responsibility.
What We Do
Our Civic Engagement Pillar provides opportunities for individuals and families to develop the knowledge, skills, and confidence needed to participate effectively in civic and community affairs.
Our areas of focus include:
• Civic Education & Literacy: Understanding government institutions, constitutional principles, civil rights, civic responsibilities, and democratic processes.
• Community Leadership Development: Preparing individuals to become effective organizers, advocates, volunteers, and community leaders.
• Voter Education & Public Participation: Promoting nonpartisan voter education, awareness of elections, and participation in public decision-making.
• Community Advocacy & Public Policy: Educating participants about public policies, local issues, and constructive ways to communicate with elected officials and public institutions.
• Youth Civic Leadership: Helping young people develop critical thinking, civic awareness, personal responsibility, and leadership skills.
• Community Organizing & Service: Encouraging collaboration, volunteerism, neighborhood improvement, and community-led solutions.
Our Approach
Through RMHC’s Community Leadership Development Framework, participants are encouraged to move beyond simply learning about civic engagement and begin putting their knowledge into practice.
Education: Understand the institutions, laws, systems, and historical developments that influence our communities.
Participation: Develop the ability to engage constructively in civic processes, public discussions, community organizations, and service initiatives.
Leadership: Apply acquired knowledge and skills to organize projects, address community concerns, and inspire others to become active contributors to society.
